The "morons" in this case are the ones that think that Obama built their sidewalks for 'em.

Sooo...... you realize that protest of federal or even state taxes has nothing to do with, say, the existence of sidewalks. Enjoy the irrelevant point you're making, then.

I'm still curious why the people who don't pay income tax are excluded from your journal, though.

because my journalist is a marxist tyranny

and also whining about taxes despite the clear and present benefit it has towards crafting a reasonable, functional infrastructure is eh, how you say, dumb.

wow... you are kinda slow on the uptake, mon.

The vast majority of those not paying taxes are lower incomes. Read up on some basic facts.

so where did you miss that point of mine, the one where if 40% of the populace that was exempt from most taxes had to pay individually for every government-provided service they'd have nothing left to put into the actual economy. you know, that whole "transfer of goods and services" thing you might have heard about?

Users who enjoyed "when furries cry" also enjoyed "owners of furry porn paysites threatening to go Galt."

As both a techno-green-futuro-lefto-communo-something-or-other-ist and a furry type, seeing libertarians, furry or not, weeping and gnashing their teeth is generally good for a chuckle. On the other hand, in those dual roles, I am now proceeding to feel guilty about linking you to further lulz. Very, very guilty. I'm going to start feeling guilty as soon as I post this comment, yes.

Realizing that everything that surrounds you was paid for with taxes: PRICELESS

I'm thinking we should create a non-tax payer status for folks really opposed to taxes. I mean, they are within their rights. And we can issue them an ID (or issue tax payers IDs . .or both) so they don't have to pay taxes for gasoline or retail or utilities anything. They can exempt from property taxes. Don't charge them income tax. Let them be totally tax free. AND they have to pay a use fee based on miles they drive a year. They have to pay rental fees for the wires that deliver their power. If they are in an accident, they have to supply payment in advance before they can be transported to a hospital. If they are victims of a crime, they will have to pay for the police to respond. If their house catches on fire, it will cost them. They can pay tuition for their spawn to go to public school and not get the state resident discount for uni. The list goes on and on . . .

1)they're still taking payroll tax hits

2)they still pay sales tax, which has a more significant impact on the living wages of the lower working class

3)additional taxes on the lower working class would pretty much annihilate the consumerist mentality that keeps capitalism functioning as it is

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

Re: umm...

(1) Nope. Maybe you are thinking of unemployment *insurance* or social security *insurance*?

(2) Sales tax is not paid to the feds and the image is of a protest of federal tax (and spending).

(3) ... seems to have little or nothing to do with anything I've said.

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

Re: umm...
[info]mcpreacher
2009-04-30 09:03 pm UTC (link)
1)nopers... sorry duders

2)sales taxes and vice taxes are there to pick up the slack dropped by tax breaks for upper-middle class folk and the resulting slashed budgets for important state run programs

3)i'm expanding on the point. while there's a 40% some odd population paying less taxes over all, their having money to spend on consumer goods makes this entire capitalist experiment run. all the wealthy captains of industry in the world couldn't do shit without lower classes to do their gruntwork and buy their products and, oh yeah, feed, educate, and babysit their kids. keeping a healthy, functional, working class with reasonable opportunities for advancement with at least a little bit of spending power is beneficial to the economy as a whole; the bigger percentage of taxes to be paid by the wealthy is the price of this social contract.

things like sales taxes, flat taxes, and fair taxes, all make the untrue assumption that a $10.00 carries the same overall value for a guy pulling in $1.5-2 grand a month compared to the guy pulling that kind of money in half a week, which is not the case.

Can anyone tell me:

When those pieces of infrastructure were built?
What the tax rate was when they were?

The problem these people have (whether they know it or not) is that the tax rate has grown disproportionately to inflation/cost of living. The Man needs to manage the money he already has better. And build more infrastructure, considering you can't drive or fly anywhere on time.

I will concede, "zero taxes" is absurd.

Defense is by far the biggest consumer of taxes even without counting the wars. Iraq has cost us close to a trillion dollars. How can one speak of taxes and give that a pass? God forbid any money goes to roads and infrastructure instead of the unnecessary mass-murder of foreigners.
